Background... From my earliest days, I remember painting and drawing continuously
- whenever I wasn't playing sports, working at my Dad's restaurant or playing drums. I completed the Famous Artist home watercolor
course while still in high school and also drew all over the walls in our attic. Being the "troubled-middle-child"
in a family of six, we had our parents muttering to themselves.
Back then, I would have been willing to produce
my pottery and live in a refrigerator box under an interstate overpass in a larger city. However, after a few years of starving,
I decided to enter the world of commercial art. I also realized it wasn't a good idea to impose that type of Bohemian lifestyle
on my family.
Work History... After six years of working for several ad agencies - as production
artist, layout artist, copy writer and then art director - I decided to head out on my own. So, in 1983 Tree Studio Marketing
Design was born while standing in an unemployment line.
Since that time, I have continued to learn as much as
I can through various venues (44+ post-graduate hours), seminars, workshops, online, coffee shops, reading magazines, talking
with other professionals ...it's a never-ending process.
I humbly ask for the opportunity to earn your respect
...and your business.
Personal Statement...
My art and my family weren't the only passions in my life back then. I came to the end of myself in the summer
of 1970 and realized that only Jesus Christ could fulfill the deepest longings of my heart. He came and sought me out, pulled
from a life of eventual self-destruction, acute meaninglessness and placed me on "The Solid Rock".
Christ
inspires every painting, drawing, pottery vessel and commercial art piece, which is the reason I named my business Tree Studio.
It's based upon Psalm 1:3 where it refers to "...a tree planted by streams of living water".
His "abundant
life" is what I am attempting to allow to flow through my work as it flows through me. It is a tremendous honor and privilege
to be a "little creator" because it imitates the ultimate "Big Creator". As an artist who happens to be
a believer, it's my greatest privilege and a most fulfilling form of worship.
